Delapre Abbey - History
The History of Delapré Abbey
With occupation of the site for nearly 900 years Delapré Abbey has a rich and intersting history. We continue to build our knowledge and understanding of the people and familes who lived here and the effect they had on the landscape and buildings that we see today.
This video presentation was created by students from Northampton University who undertook some oral history interviews with local people.
The stories will be told in exhibitions and displays at the Abbey as well as through planned tours and events that visitors to the site will be able to enjoy.
The Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust will develop a community archive of memories, tales, and resources relating to Delapré Abbey and to support detailed research into the many elements of its history.
We wish to collect together copies of relevant documents in an accessible form for anyone interested in the history of Delapré Abbey to be able to study. We also intend to use these resources to develop our tours and other educational visits.
If you are interested in becoming involved with this work - either in researching or helping to record the stories and people of the Abbey or sharing your memories and recollections with us then please do get in touch.
