Front of House Assistant
Grade/Salary: £9.23ph
Location: Delapré Abbey
Reporting to: Visitor Welcome Supervisor
Duration: Annualised hours, fixed term (working pattern is every Fri, Sat, Sun and Monday over 7 months of our summer season and every Sat and Sun over our shorter winter season)
Job purpose
The newly created post of Front of House Assistant for Delapré Abbey is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in a distinctly different heritage project. As a Preservation Trust, we’re preparing to fully open this wonderful building for the first time in its 900 year history. We’ll be showcasing the newly restored building and exploring its’ stories in a mixture of hands-on, interactive exhibitions and experiences. We’re also launching a community learning space, meeting and conferencing facilities, weddings and functions and a new café and restaurant so, there’ll be a lot going on!
Your role will be key to pivotal by ensuring we meet our aim of offering the very best customer service every day, every time. You’ll be meeting and greeting our guests and making sure they want to come back again and again as well as supporting our volunteer welcome hosts inside and outside the Abbey.
What’s it like to work here?
Delapré Abbey is a country house with a twist. We think of ourselves as an urban country house and park as we’re situated just on the edge or suburban Northampton but if you look out from our first floor meeting rooms, you’d be forgiven for thinking that you’re in the heart of the countryside with views out across Delapré Park. We’re currently a small staff team but we’re supported by more than 150 committed volunteers and we’re all passionate about this fantastic place. Although you’ll be working in our visitor welcome team, you’ll get to know everyone pretty quickly and there’ll be lots of opportunities to make a real difference to the future of this amazing place.
About your day:
You’ll arrive in the morning and help us to get the Abbey ready for opening before welcoming our volunteers. You’ll be on the ground during the day assisting our visitors to make the most of their day, supporting our volunteers and offering them breaks whilst dealing with any comments and queries, checking on safety and security and occasionally assisting with events and activities which may be happening across the site.
Key tasks:

Delivering exceptional customer service by welcoming our visitors, answering their questions and generally helping them to make the most of their visit

Working with the Duty Manager and other staff to ensure the Abbey is safe and secure; understanding our emergency procedures and helping in any evacuation in the event of an emergency

Taking an active role in ensuring all the team, including staff and volunteers, understand and follow our Health & Safety policies and procedures
About you

You’ll have excellent customer service skills

You’ll be well presented and have a great eye for detail

You’ll also be a team player who can engage with other staff as well as interacting with volunteers of all ages

You’ll be able to keep your head in a busy environment

Visitor Welcome Assistant
Grade/ Salary: £7.50 per hour
Location: Delapré Abbey
Reporting to: Visitor Welcome Supervisor
Duration: Zero hours contract (with regular weekend working), based on a flexible rota
Job purpose
The Visitor Welcome team at Delapré Abbey will be the first people to meet and greet our new visitors as we open our newly restored building to the public for the first time in its 900 year old history.
Your role will be to make sure all our visitors are met with a warm welcome. You’ll mainly be working in our visitor reception or ‘Visitor Welcome’ space. Where you’ll be sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm for Delapré Abbey and its stories and actively promoting our events and activities.

You’ll mainly be working in the Visitor Welcome or reception space selling entrance tickets and manning our small shop. You’ll be working as part of a team which also includes a Visitor Welcome Supervisor and a number of volunteers.
You’ll be using your excellent customer service skills and your excellent eye for presentation to ensure that our visitor welcome area is always a friendly and well cared for place.
Key tasks:

Practical visitor related tasks including selling and scanning tickets
-
Providing the core visitor welcome function, answering questions and helping to direct visitors
-
Keeping the inside and outside space of the visitor welcome area looking good, stocking the shop, and operating the tills and cash handling
-
You’ll also be welcoming our meetings and functions guests and directing them to their meeting space

From time to time, you may be asked to assist with events and activities happening across the site

Working with the Duty Manager and other staff to ensure the Abbey is safe and secure; understanding our emergency procedures and helping to evacuate visitors, under the direction of the Duty Manager or Incident Manager, in the event of an emergency

Understanding and following our Health & Safety policies and procedures

Facilities Support
Grade/ Salary: £8.20 per hour
Location: Delapré Abbey
Reporting to: Visitor Services Manager, Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust
Duration: Minimum of 750 annualised hours per year, fixed term contract (with regular weekend working)
Job Purpose
The Facilities Support has a crucial role to play as we build and then open Northampton’s newest historic visitor attraction, Delapré Abbey. Our beautiful place needs help to make sure it’s clean and tidy for all the many thousands of visitors we’re expecting to welcome when we open the doors for the first time. You’ll support us in ensuring our presentation standard and visitor service quality is highly rated, so helping us to create what will be a unique and exciting visitor experience.
Once we’re open, you’ll work alongside our staff and volunteer teams turning your practical hand to all sorts of cleaning and general maintenance duties to make sure all our facilities, indoors and out, are kept in good working order.
You’ll have a positive, can-do attitude and be committed to putting our visitors first and you’ll be a strong team player with a flexible approach.
Job Summary:
The post holder will be based at Delapré Abbey, Northampton and will report to the Visitor Services Manager.
The purpose of the job is to ensure we provide a great customer service with our clean, tidy and well-presented facilities.
Core duties will involve:

Assisting with the day to day cleanliness of the Abbey by keeping our toilet facilities clean and stocked across the site, tidying our public & private rooms, and litter-picking

Basic facilities management from checking on and changing light bulbs, to emptying bins and assisting with conservation tasks in the Abbey
-
Helping protect our spaces with basic security measures such as locking and unlocking the building
-
Supporting colleagues with deep cleaning tasks
-
Complying with the provisions of the Employee Handbook
-
Maintaining up to date knowledge of relevant Health & Safety regulations and requirements, attending training courses as required
-
Other duties as determined by the Board and agreed between the line manager and the employee
